Our Core Values

We Bleed Beer

We were brewing beer at home for 10 years before we started our brewery. We started making beer because we love brewing. We love the the craft, getting our hands dirty, and making things ourselves. We are passionate about making great beer, and won’t accept anything but an amazing product. We will dump beer down the drain before serving anything sub par. Beer is why we come to work, it’s our creation, it’s our passion.

We Say No

Our philosophy around beer is to make it simple. Simplicity is hard to achieve in a world of so much variety, constant change, and gimmicks. We say no a lot; to gimmicks, trends, additives, and strive for simple, amazing tasting beer with as few ingredients as possible.

Single malt and Single hop beers have a point of view. Only one type of grain, and one hop variety. This forced simplicity challenges us and creates a focus on process, the details, and the craft. The result of the SMASH philosophy is the cheese pizza of beer, with the perspective of quality over quantity of ingredients, great flavor, and flawlessly made.

We Make it, and Serve it Locally

We live, work, and play in San Francisco. We operate our brewery, bar, and restaurant in Lower Haight. It’s extremely important for us to make our product locally, and for our locals. We make a high end product and experience that is still affordable with an approachable brand.
